The challenge

Addiction can affect any family.

Involvement with drugs is not bound by age, race or religion. It touches people from every background and can separate them from the families and communities that want to help. Shalom exists to offer a structured path towards restoration.

A welcome from Pastor Sam

Pastor Sam

Centre Director · Shalom Community Character Development Centre
Welcome to Shalom Community. This space is reserved for Pastor Sam’s personal message to families, visitors and those seeking help. His message can share the heart behind the ministry, the hope of restoration in Christ, and what families can expect from the journey at Shalom.

Our mission

At Shalom, it is our desire to break the bondage of addiction through the genuine power of love and character building, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 4:17b — “God who gives life to the dead and calls things which are not as though they were.”

We believe in the value of every human life, especially those trapped in addiction. We desire to bring hope to the homeless and restore dignity to people whom society has rejected through the message of the gospel.

The programme

A two-year journey, in five phases.

Each phase supports spiritual growth, godly character, increasing responsibility, family reconciliation and a meaningful return to society.

Who we serve

Two tracks, one restoration process.

20 & below

Juvenile track

After behavioural modification, we work to place youth back into school, whether physical or online, so they can continue their education alongside recovery.

Above 20

Adult track

After completing the programme, adults may return to studies or re-enter society, supported by the re-entry and reconciliation process.

Our approach

Three pillars of recovery.

Shalom combines biblical discipleship with counselling and a fully residential therapeutic community.

Pillar one

Christ-centredness

Prayer, deliverance, mentoring, discipleship, Scripture memory, Bible study, 12-Step materials and character formation.

Pillar two

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Talk therapy helps clients recognise unhealthy thought and behaviour patterns, process trauma, build healthier coping skills and prepare for re-entry.

Pillar three

Therapeutic community

Living and working alongside others through work therapy, practical skills, animal care, farm therapy, sports and exercise.

Aftercare

The journey continues — together.

The recovery group meets once a month for graduates re-entering society, providing makan, fellowship, topical studies, testimonies and shared activities.

Why this matters

Recovery is lifelong. Staying connected gives graduates continued encouragement, accountability and community as they rebuild life beyond the Centre.
